Jack went to the dentist for the first time on January 14, 2010. He was just a month and a half shy of being three. I hemmed and hawed for a long time about when to take him for his first visit. All the stuff I read and the recommendation from my dentist ranged anywhere from when the first tooth popped in to 3 years old. I'm certain I made the correct decision in waiting until now!
We decided to take him to a dentist who specializes in children rather than taking him to our own dentist. That, too, was a good choice! The philosophy of Dr. Mensing is spot on for young children, albeit a bit expensive! Jack's first visit entailed a tour of the dentist office and of all the cool dental "toys." It also included a long sit in the dental chair with some fancy stuffed puppets with full sets of teeth. He got to brush, floss, and count their teeth. He had a blast!
After he got comfortable with the dentist office and chair, the dentist, Dr. Mensing came in. She was just lovely. She was just as gentle with him as the hygienist was. She told him everything she was doing (like counting his teeth, shining the light, etc). And counting teeth was where it stopped! The next visit is where he'll actually get his teeth cleaned! That's February 9th! Stay tuned...
