Every year for Century's Homecoming, staff members get to submit their kids' names to be junior royalty. If you have a child or grandchild in Kindergarten or 1st grade, they are eligible. I remember when I started at CHS (8 years ago), I thought to myself,
someday, I'll have a child for this! Well, this was the year. As soon as the all call came across email for staff members with eligible kids, I sent in Jack's name. Luckily he got the honor, but it wasn't just because he was cute, it was because he had no competition! There were no other eligible boys this year. There were about 5 cute girls vying for the spot to be his date, though! My colleague and friend, Mike Eckerman's daughter, Ava won the drawing. They were a cute couple!
This is my principal, Chris Fogarty. He thinks Jack is pretty cool! He likes that Jack is a football fan since he's a former football player, in case you can't tell!
Right before the coronation ceremony, there was a little rehearsal and reception. Jay was able to get off work to see his son work his tuxedo!
The Homecoming theme this year was Toy Story. That's why the walkway was alphabet mats and then toys set up as decorations!
Jack had a blast hanging with the big boys. He thought those high school boys were "so cool!" He especially liked Mitch, my student, who is a big football and baseball player! He's since made a few drawings for me to deliver to Mitch! I think Mitch enjoys having the little admirer too!
This student government kid gave Jack a high five before he walked out in front of the whole student body! Jack wasn't shy at all and did great!
Jack and Ava met at the arch, only Ava decided to just stop there and not proceed down the walkway. Jack waited for a few seconds and then said, SEE YA!
In all, the experience was really fun. Jack had to miss school, but I think the experience was worth it. Homecoming Parade pictures up next!
