Having a family of your own means holding on to traditions you loved from your own childhood (and your spouse's) and then creating new ones for your own children. I never remember having a bad birthday in my life, but I don't remember them being particularly amazing either. That's not to say that my parents did anything wrong; they just didn't go over the top! Jay and I have the theory that since we worked our tales off to have children, they're clearly a blessing to us, so we really want to make the most of them and create what we think is an awesome childhood for them....so, this year we decided that this was the year we were really going to "do up" birthdays. This is in theory the first birthday that Jack could really remember, so we wanted to make the day (and subsequent party) memorable. On his actual birthday, Saturday, February 26, we had a family day. We started by making a breakfast he chose (Strawberry pancakes with whip cream and candles). Then we decided to open a few presents at the breakfast table (saving most of them for his party the following day). Afterwards, we told him of the special day we had planned. We were going to take him to Underwater World at the MOA. He was thrilled and then wanted to go on a few rides at the amusement park too. (Whatever they're calling it these days...)
Birthday Breakfast
Underwater World---MOA
Oh yeah, that's what it's called!
Jack (and I) went on a few rides, but it was so packed, the lines were impossible. Jack was surprisingly OK with only a couple rides. Such a "grown up" attitude for a four year old!
We ended the day celebrating with a "Special Supper" at Bubba Gump Shrimp. They treated him like a king and he got a fancy dessert with a big group of singers. Embarrassingly enough, I teared up!
And what about Luke, you ask? He was a totally chill baby all day and just cruised around in his stroller!
